Group question

From: Candace Wied (bccwied@sbcglobal.net) | Date: 2007-05-20 20:56:06 UTC-07:00
One of the letter boxes I looked at today said that the only way to obtain a clue was by
postal mail. We had to contact the placer by email or by po box, and then they would mail us the clue. This made me a little uneasy sending a stranger my address. What do ya'll think of this and has anyone done it?

I think what he wrote about kids today is so applicable to
letterboxing, too.

Thanks for sharing, Don.

I see you kids with "I want it now" attitudes and expectations of

doing their homework. I see kids throwing shells, pouting, and
beating themselves up with no chance of winning because they're there
for the wrong reasons and not properly prepared. It's not about
winning and instant gratification. It's about learning how to play
the game with style and laughter and determination. It's about
the "Fun of the Game".

Hey Candace!

I know the placer you are talking about - Gryzzled Gryphon, right? Some of
his clues are not in emailable format (and he doesn't do things
like scanners), so they have to be either hand-delivered or mailed. By
putting a twist on distributing the clues, he is continuing his take on the
game. Frankly, I'm amazed he's even put them online - they were WOM for the
longest!

But with respect to your general question, not the specific one, it makes me
uneasy when I have to hand out my address too, especially in a situation
like that. I usually use my husband's office, or have something mailed to a
friend's PO box.

BUT - in the specific case, I'm betting you can work out some sort of
arrangement with him without giving him your address (just tell him you are
uneasy with that - he'll understand!) - you may just have to get creative!
It's never EASY dealing with him - but it is always INTERESTING!

Very interesting question, since I'm always a trusting Pollyanna
Pureheart. You have a good point. By the way, I noticed Lucy
mentioned WOM. What does that stand for?
